Pressure Washing vs. Soft Washing
Cleaning your home’s exterior on a regular basis is extremely important. It doesn’t just keep your home looking great, but it keeps it healthy as well, eliminating mold, mildew, fungus, dirt, and grime. But when you’re having your exterior professionally cleaned, you’ll need to decide between having it pressure washing or soft washing.
At Evolved Pressure Washing LLC, our professional New Jersey pressure washing contractors can provide you with both of these services, and we can help you decide on which service would be best for the job that you need completed. The first step in determining which of these services you need for your home is knowing what the difference between the two is, and how each can benefit your home in different ways.
The Differences Between Soft Washing and Pressure Washing
While soft washing and pressure washing both use water to wash your New Jersey home’s exterior feature, they do so in very different ways.
Pressure washing uses highly pressurized water to forcefully remove any dirt or grime from the surface that it comes into contact with. This is is very effective, but it does pose some risk of damage to your property.
Soft washing forgoes much of that pressurization in favor of chemicals. These chemicals are safe for both your home and the environment.
Both pressure and soft washing will do an excellent job of cleaning various parts of your home’s exterior, and each can be an excellent method, though one may be preferable to the other for any given job.
When to Use Pressure Washing
Pressure washing uses a want that expels water at 2500 PSI (pounds per square inch) or more, which is highly effective for removing stains but could cause damage to softer surfaces on your New Jersey home’s exterior. It may remove paint from wood, damage shingles, destroy screens, or disturb your siding.
Pressure washing is best for use on surfaces including:
- Concrete driveways
- Sidewalks
- Walkways
- Patio pavers
- Brick
- Stone
When to Use Soft Washing
Soft washing uses water that is expelled at no more than 1,000 PSI, which is less than half the pressure used for pressure washing. Instead of relying on pressure to clean your New Jersey home, soft washing techniques use detergents and “dwell times” to clean the surface. Dwell times are simple the length of time that the detergent rests on the surface to let the chemicals loosen and remove stains and grime. In many cases, you should only ever use soft washing techniques to avoid damage to your property.
Soft washing is recommended for:
- Cedar shake
- Wood panel siding
- Stucco and coquina
- Screens, screened enclosures, and lanais
